|
Brent has served RCF as Senior Pastor since 2006. Prior to that he served for 22 years as the church planter and senior pastor of three churches in the greater Washington/Baltimore area. He served the last of those churches, South Potomac Church, for nearly 15 years. In addition to his pastoral ministry, he has served as a seminary professor at 3 schools, the leader of a church planting ministry, a church consultant, and a board member of numerous foreign and domestic mission agencies. In a former life, Brent was a confirmed atheist and had an employment history ranging from oil field laborer to practice as a civil trial attorney. A key marker event in his life was total kidney failure in 1983 followed by a kidney transplant in 1984. From this he has learned much about the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. A graduate of both the University of Texas School of Law (J.D.) and Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M. with high honors), he is also currently finishing a Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Formation from Asbury Theological Seminary. Brent’s passion is drawing people closer and closer to Jesus Christ, both in drawing Christians into deeper spiritual formation and in leading seekers into a saving knowledge of Jesus. Brent’s wife Jill is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Texas and attended the School of Law there. Jill serves RCF as a children’s ministry volunteer, women’s Bible study leader, and choir member. Their daughter Abby also lives in Reno where she is a graduate student at the University of Nevada. Her husband David is a high school math teacher. They are both actively involved in various ministries within the church, including the young adult ministry, the high school ministry, and Angel Tree. The whole family loves travel, hiking, reading, music, and eating ethnic foods |
